Global Contexts

Global Contexts

The global contexts provide the MYP with its unique core. Teaching subject areas through these contexts directs learning toward independent and shared inquiry into our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet. There are six Global Contexts:

  • Identities and relationships
  • Orientation in space and time
  • Personal and cultural expression
  • Scientific and technical innovation
  • Globalization and sustainability
  • Fairness and development

Teaching students how to learn effectively should be the ultimate goal of all schools. The teachers at SCS understand the need for students to acquire the skills and the confidence to take ownership of their own learning. The teachers at SCS do not assume students have the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful learners, and therefore teach a range of learning skills and strategies that take into account the specific needs of the students.
