St. Cecelia Catholic School Presents Summertime Activities for Kids at Home

St. Cecelia Sunday School Summertime Activities

Summer is here! That means fun activities with the kids for a few months while school is out. Even if you’re at home and your choices for outdoor fun are limited, you can still have summer fun. Today’s blog from St. Cecelia Catholic School discusses how to have fun with your kids in the summer while staying at home.

Backyard Camping

Nothing says “fun” like creating a campsite in your backyard. Pitch your tent, roll out the sleeping bags, tell spooky stories, and roast wieners on a stick around the barbecue. Camping in your backyard gives your kids something different to experience without going too far from home. St. Cecelia Catholic School encourages you to help them learn about the outdoors while your kids are camping.

Stargazing

Teach your kids about the constellations and the stars while stargazing in your backyard. Take a star map with you so you can tell which constellations appear at which time. A flashlight can help as a pointer. If you have a telescope, take a look at the moon and other planets in the night sky.

Family Bike Riding

Head to your nearest park or bike trail with your kids to enjoy an afternoon or evening of bike riding. Make sure to wear helmets and follow the rules of the trail. If you need to cycle on roads to reach your destination, make sure to follow designated bike lanes or use only residential streets to get there.

Cooking & Baking

Summertime is the perfect time to teach your kids how to prepare, cook, and bake food. Create fun snacks and kid-friendly meals that are both nutritious and delicious. They’ll learn valuable life skills while you get a few extra helping hands in the kitchen. St. Cecelia Catholic School believes kids learn the best when they participate in activities rather than just watching them.

Backyard Beach

All you need to create a backyard beach is an inflatable pool, a few buckets, a beach ball, and swimsuits! If you have a sandbox for your kids to play in, you have a way to make sand castles. Set out some lawn chairs or loungers for a relaxing day at your backyard beach.
